Statement of Purpose

The Korean Society for Feminist Studies in English and American Literature (FSEL) was established in 1992 with the objective of advancing fresh interpretations of English and American literature through the lens of feminist perspectives and theories, and to cultivate an interest in feminism in academia. The society comprises scholars and graduate students with a keen interest in feminist approaches to English and American literature, covering a broad spectrum of literary, cultural, and social topics related to feminism. FSEL not only introduces feminism in English literature, which is already actively pursued in Korea, but also generates homegrown feminist scholarship informed by the lived experiences of Korean scholars. Additionally, FSEL is committed to articulating and disseminating feminist insights and knowledge grounded in reality, leading to activism.
